I’m going to let you in on a secret to producing cover songs more quickly than recording all the parts normally. The secrets requires the use of two softwares; Guitar Pro and Propellerhead Reason 5. In the following I am going to introduce you to these software and tell you exactly how you can produce a cover song quickly, typically within just a couple of hours. Guitar Pro Guitar Pro is tablature editing program that has many more features than just reading tablature and music. You can write your own music in Guitar Pro or you can also download songs from websites it has built in as well as other website you can find by typing the song name you are seeking along with the search term “guitar pro” (for example “comfortably numb guitar pro”). Guitar Pro allows you to export scores into MIDI files. These MIDI files are what you will import into the next software I will speak of, Propellerhead Reason 5 Propellorheads Reason Propellerhead Reason 5 is a synth editing software that is widely used by music producers of all genres. It has an enormous range of synths, effects and mastering devices built in. You can create new sounds as well as purchase “refills” which are packages of synths configured typically for a specific genre or style of music. You can write things on the fly by using a USB controlled keyboard, by using your mouse and keyboard, or in this case by importing preconfigured MIDI files. Now that you are familiar with the software, I will give you the basic steps for producing a cover song using both. These steps are presented at a high level and are designed for the user that is somewhat familiar with the applications. At a later date I will update this with a video stepping you through all of the following. Quick & Dirty Method: Launch both Propellerhead Reason 5 & Guitar Pro. Find a cover song on the internet by searching for the song title along with the keywords “guitar pro” and you will typically find a site with your song if your song is popular enough. Download the Guitar Pro file. Open the file you just downloaded in Guitar Pro. Go to the File menu > Export > and choose MIDI. Switch to Propellerhead Reason 5 Go to the File men and choose Import. Select the MIDI file you just exported. Add your instruments to the MIDI tracks. With this method you save time because you are importing the pre-composed MIDI tracks. If the Guitar Pro file is written accurately your only concern is creating the correct synths and instruments, reducing the time to produce since you don’t have to score out all of the tracks. xoxo, Christine Rage

I have been studying professional singing for several years and over this time I have amassed some techniques that help me be a better singer. I thought I would share some of these tips so that you can take them and use them to also help improve your singing. All of these tips in themselves won’t make you a great singer, that comes with time and proper coaching. These tips will however go along with professional training to help you get more out of your voice. Ear Training I found a really great website all about ear training. I wanted to pass this along because as a singer (or any type of musician) it is very important in your training to practice ear training. Practicing ear training will make you more accurate when singing impromptu songs, adding dynamics and background vocals, and accompanying any ensemble of players or singers. The website Good Ear is found at http://good-ear.com. My vocal coach has me use the Chord section. For ear training I listen to the chords and I try to pick the notes out by singing them in no specific order. Picking the notes out like this helps me excercise my ear and over time has improved my ability to improvise when singing live with a band, or when writing a new song I am able to add more dynamics. Consider singers like Alicia Keys or Christina Aguilera, they both sing very dynamic melodies and this is possible due to their extensive ear training. Olive Oil Olive oil is an excellent throat lubricant! If you find yourself getting horse or drying out, take a small shot of olive oil and feel the instant benefits. It is advisable to buy as light flavored as you can, I typically get olive oil made for salads. This has to do with the taste, the type you use will have no different benefit so if you don’t mind the stronger flavored olive oils by all means use it! Go sparingly on it though, too many shots of it will also lubricate your GI tract and you might have results you weren’t intending. Push-Up Position Did you know that holding your body in certain positions will force it to sing on key and prevent you from over powering or over breathing? It’s true, and if you try putting yourself in a push-up position you will soon see what I mean. When you are in a push up position you muscles will not allow you to push too much air past your vocal chords. You will find that the amount of air you can release is restricted, and this restriction is the exact amount you should have when you are standing normally. Try singing like this regularly as a part of your practice. Place a mini recorder or your iPhone or Android and tape the difference between singing a song standing and in this position.
The Official Music Video This is the official music video for the title track to my 2011 EP Release of Rock The House! Shot in San Diego California by JNP Productions July 16th 2011. It features a masterful solo by Johnny Bowman. I had a ton of fun shooting this video. This is my first professionally shot video to support my music, but it is definitely not my last! I think that JNP did a great job and captured an awesome look. I acquired a brand new Dodge Challenger for the shoot and a nice boutique hotel that I eventually trash out as you will see in the end of the video, enjoy! Fun Facts: 26 extras were cast (login and tag yourself in the comments if you were an extra) We shot in front of the Iron Maidens who were gigging at the club. The video starts at Brick By Brick in San Diego. Yes that is BAD ADD Dodge Challenger! Yes I took the opportunity to open it up on the highway between takes. I tore up a unnamed fancy hotel room in downtown San Diego with the feathers. The San Diego police were extremely supportive and helpful at the open-air shoot. Much of my inspiration came from Tawny Kitaen in the classic Whitesnake videos, can you tell? ;p xoxoxo, Christine Rage “All The World’s A Rage!” \m/

Rock The House Now Available! My album “Rock The House” has officially been released today on major distributors including Amazon and others! You can grab a copy right on my website http://christinerage.com! The EP features 3 of my hard hitting tunes including: Rock The House – A sexy seductive Hard Rock tune was inspired by songs like Stranglehold (Ted Nugent) and Rock Me (Great White). It features the masterful shredder Johnny Bowman on a rippin’ solo. I Don’t Die – This industrial tune is a homogeneous blend of Metal and Electronica. Inspired by groups like Rob Zombie, Rammstein and Orgy, get ready for some fat fast guitar over some heavy bass and beats. Bounce - Have you been so exited a concert you just bounced? Well this song tells that story! Another Electronica and Heavy Metal hybrid, Bounce is going to make you groove to the beat and the ultra heavy guitars. You can purchase the album for only $2.97, or each single for $.99! Not only is that a deal, that’s a steal! But wait, it gets better! All of my Reverb Nation fans get a FREE copy of the title Track “Rock The House!” Just login and download it!
